New England Horsemen’s Council encourages junior and adult riders to pursue education beyond the high school level and awards a $500 educational scholarship in the following disciplines: Hunter Seat Equitation, Hunter Seat Pleasure Equitation, Saddle Seat Equitation, and Western/Reining Seat.
Candidates for the Hunter Seat Equitation scholarship must be a NEHC member in good standing and have qualified for the Medal in the year of the final. Candidates must also be attending school as a high school senior or full-time college student.
Selection will be based on the ability and aptitude for pursuing education beyond the high school level, community service, leadership and achievement with horses; less on financial need. Previous applicants who were not awarded the scholarship may reapply.
If in the opinion of the Scholarship Committee no applicant meets the standards as set by the Committee, the scholarship funds will be held within the NEHC scholarship account. NEHC furnishes the NEEC medal committee with a certificate to be awarded to the scholarship winner. Scholarship winners must present their transcript with a minimum 3.0 grade point average after a semester in post-secondary school to the administration office to receive the payment. The scholarship will expire in five years unless a letter of intent is received by the NEHC office.
